This type of steel wire rope contains a lot of oil, both inside and out. Wiping the surface to reveal the metallic iron color cannot completely hide the presence of rust. Yellow iron rust can be seen in places where there is no oil.
Galvanized steel wire rope is made of galvanized steel wire. Because the surface is galvanized, it is generally not oiled after twisting. The steel wire rope contains very little oil overall, and if any, it is concentrated only in the rope core. The surface is zinc-white, like the color of new lead wire. Older stock will have the color of old lead wire and will not show yellow iron rust. The most economical way to distinguish them is to soak them in tap water under normal conditions. After one or two days, the one that rusts is the bright one, and the one that doesn't rust is the other type. Of course, I personally think a faster way is to use the curved surface of the wire to draw back and forth on paper a few times (without tearing the paper). A clear dark gray mark indicates galvanized wire, while the absence of a mark indicates bright wire.
